Description of project:
Our class did an online campaign regarding the advocacy of sexual harassment to speak out for the sexually harassed community.
We did this, first, by talking about what constitutes sexual harassment and some of the common examples that people usually experience.
We also shared a few helplines that victims can reach out to seek help from if needed. We personally went to research on actual cases that happened and their consequences, showing the severity of this issue.
We then shared a few useful and relevant self defence tips on how to protect ourselves from sexual predators.
Lastly, our call for action was to get people to wear a teal ribbon to show support to the sexually harassed and assaulted victims.
All this was done on an Instagram page we created, @projectsexualharassment for this advocacy project!
Class Reflections:
From this JC2 SL Day project, we have all learnt so much more about how prominent the issue of sexual harassment is in our local community, and is one that should not be taken lightly.
From helping to research information, to creating the posts for our Instagram page, we have learnt more on ways how we can help prevent ourselves from being sexually harassed in the future. We not only learnt to protect ourselves, but also found some helplines and methods that we can provide to other victims that we might know of to give them our support.
This project has been very insightful for each and every one of us despite having played different roles to aid this project. Through this project, we truly and earnestly hope and wish that we can help improve the situation of sexual harassment in Singapore. We feel that sexual harassment is a worthy cause to raise awareness about as there are still many people/victims out there who are afraid to speak out and seek help for themselves.
We are all extremely worried for those who have gone through such traumatizing experiences and we feel that no one deserves it! We may never know how they feel, but this is the least we can do to help with this situation.
It is time that we as a country, STEP UP and face this issue head-on!
