Description of Project: Potong Pasir Clean
Our project was on keeping Potong Pasir clean. We were divided into 4 groups, and took different routes to pick up stray litter in the neighbourhood. It was a truly enlightening journey, as many of us had never noticed how much litter there really was on the streets. Furthermore, it was not easy to bend over and clean rubbish under the hot sun, making us feel more grateful for the cleaners in singapore. Singapore is known to most as ‘the garden city’ - a title that has only been made possible due to our cleaners. However, we don’t show enough appreciation for the work they do until we are put in their shoes. from this, i would say our class definitely learnt to be more environmentally conscientious, especially when discarding rubbish - and to be more appreciative of the cleaners in the neighborhood.

I learnt that littering is quite common in Singapore and this can mainly be seen through the large amounts of tissue paper, masks and cigarette buds that can be found under HDB blocks. This shows how Singaporeans can be quite irresponsible for their own actions that contribute to the degradation of the environment. We as Saints should thus do our part and help clean up the environment around us.

The most common litter we found were cigarettes and tissue. People need to be more responsible for their own trash. We need to do our own individual part of keeping our community clean. Because picking up the small pieces of litter is actually very time consuming and inefficient. We should at least clean up after ourselves and dispose our trash properly so that we dont inconvenient and make the cleaners do more.

one of the most number of trash we picked up today was of cigarettes butts which can say a lot for both the detrimental effects towards the environment and health at the same time. We noticed the trash was mostly around convenient areas such as benches and behind blocks of housing estates :( we should be responsible for our own trash because genuinely it shouldn’t be other peoples job to take care of ours

through the clean up activity, i’ve learnt a lot about the work and effort that goes into keeping singapore a clean and green city. It was tiring having to continuously pick up litter under the hot sun. Although from afar it seemed like an easy and doable job, it was definitely very taxing after an hour. i now understand the plight of the cleanliness workers and will always advocate for an anti-littering singapore. lesson learnt: Littering might seem like an inconsequential action but it really adds up.

I learned that the estate is not that clean as it seems . Most litters are well hidden and within vegetation so sometimes it’s hard to notice. Therefore i appreciate the maintenance workers as they strive their best to help keep the estate as clean as possible so as to make it look nice and pleasing. i can appreciate my service workers more through simple gestures such as simply saying hi
