Description of project:
We worked with Lion Befrienders for our JC2 service learning day. It was a memorable and an eye-opening experience for all our classmates.
We had a great opportunity to help and give back to the community. In our project, we interacted with the elderly via zoom. At the start we had a music performance by our classmate as our ice breaker activity. We then conducted a origami and a paper cutting session for the elderly and they made their own origami crafts at the centre. Lastly, we conducted a Tai Chi session. Our classmates demonstrated various Tai Chi movements and we created a video of these movements. The elderly were looking at the video and they followed the steps.
Overall, we were all happy to see the smiles on the elderly faces at the end of the day. This project has also strengthened the bond between our classmates.
Class Reflections:

My SLEAD experience was very enriching. With Covid-19 on-going, getting a chance to interact with the elderly especially from the lion befrienders would be quite difficult. This SLEAD activity gave me a chance and opportunity to interact with them and maybe help bring a smile on their faces. Seeing them happy and satisfied with the activities our class had planned made me quite happy.

It was a very fun, fulfilling and enriching experience, getting to interact with the elderly and to teach them how to do origami and paper cutting. i learnt that i had to be EXTRA patient and make sure that every one of the elderly is following and can keep up with my demonstration to ensure that no one is left behind.

This SL experience was an enriching one that allowed me to work with my classmates while contributing to the community, and as a whole, I think that the execution of the whole event was successful and enjoyable. “

This would be an event that I would never forget. Also, I learnt the importance of teamwork and communication, as everyone had to do their part to make the event a success and communicate well so everything runs smoothly.”

From this SL activity, I have learnt to be patient with elderly in order for them to learn the correct movements.”
