Description of Project:
We went to NTUC Health Toa Payoh to conduct activities to engage the elderly. We did many things in the 2 hours of engagement doing trivia, zumba, singing of national day songs, and even held a guitar performance of national day songs for them to admire! Though there were hiccups, we were all sure the elderly were all satisfied with the activities, and even gave a goodie bag with donated things by our classmates!
We all left the senior day care centre with high spirits to have a class lunch, and are looking forward to next year’s SL day activity.
Class Reflections:
Overally, our class thinks that our SL day activity was a success! We adapted to the unexpected ‘eccentric’ venue, and managed to quickly change the activities to suit the venue. Our classmates who were in class helped us to settle all the AVA needs through zoom, like the playing of the national day songs for the elderly to sing. For zumba, we split up into different groups to do at the split venues.
We tried as much as possible to interact with the elderly. Though they were not the most jovial of people, the trivia managed to help them to open up more, as we showed pictures of places that they have known since young, letting them reminisce about their childhood.
