Description of project:
Our project revolved around teaching the Elderly how to use online shopping platforms due to the increase in online shopping due to Covid. The platform we chose was Shopee as it is generally cheaper and used more often as compared to other platforms.
In our project, we introduced Shopee to the seniors, teaching them how to search for specific products, using discounts and giving a general outline of Shopee. We also had a cybersecurity segment where we informed them about the scams they are exposed to when shopping online, and the measures they need to take when keying in certain details such as their credit card numbers and pins. This was all done in the form of a presentation.
After which, we had smaller breakout rooms where we had a hands on session with the seniors where they had a walkthrough of using Shopee and they had the opportunity to try it on their own.

Class Reflections:
I really loved this eye opening encounter we had with the seniors. At first, I was quite anxious bout them not being so enthusiastic about the games but surely after, they warmed up and was so so participative. Also, I realised how fast they pick up a new skill, the fact that they were willing to sign up and learn about this makes me so encouraged bout their lifelong learning attitude. In just 1h of practice, it made me really happy that they could already buy things. We had a fun time talking about life and creating that safe space where they didn't need to feel ashamed of asking us questions. Overall, a really fruitful and memorable experience despite it being online. Really enhanced the skill of patience and empathy!
Personally i think it was really a good and chill time spent with the elderly. I did not expect that the elderlies will be so engaged with our games and conversations and i believe that they enjoyed our teaching on how to use Shopee! My favourite moment would definitely be the time spent with Auntie Janice and Uncle Kelvin as they were super engaged in what we were sharing and we sustained a conversation for the entire breakout room time! I believe that i could have been more prepared with slides and extra things so that i can teach them more things about Shopee! But nonetheless, am very heartened to be able to share with the seniors and have stronger bonds built between us!
Got to know more about like elderly? Because it is really a rare chance to interact with elderly which is an age group that l have least interactions with, therefore through this experience it really changed some of my impressions towards elderly. l have realised that they are actually very eager to learn and catch up with the current general. Especially through interactions in the breakout room, the elderly were really bubbly and enthusiastic about the usage of online shopping and they were really heartwarming as well by constantly cheering us and thanking us for being so patient which makes me feel even more genuine and more determined to teach them on usage of shopee. Overall, l feel that it is really a great experience however l thought that l should have slowed down a little bit more when l was explaining and give more time for them to process , nonetheless l'm grateful for this wonderful experience.
