Description of project:
Our project was with the PCF Sparkletots centre (Potong Pasir branch) with the N2 kids, from 10am to 11am. The theme of this project was Water and Water Conservation. For the content of the project, we engaged the pre-schoolers in four different activities:
A Brief Experiment on Filtration
A Story with regards to the Water Cycle and Water Wally
A Skit titled: “Life Under Water” that discusses the plight of aquatic organisms due to human-induced water pollution
A Sing Along with the children about the importance of water
The first three activities were conducted by individual groups with each group supplying their required materials, scripts and plans. Throughout the project, a pair of emcees ( students ) would, at regular intervals, introduce each new segment and the end of each segment. The final activity, shall we say outro, was conducted with the attendance of all groups as a final goodbye to the children along with the sing-along.
Class Reflections:
The ‘Filtration group’:
Xander Goh, Xander Gan, Aiden, Athan, Timothy, Rui Heng & Eden
What did you do?
We taught children the importance of filtering and the usage of filtering through a plethora of mediums and a demonstration.
What did you feel?
We were on cloud nine when we saw the kids being happy. before the actual service we were nervous and excited but then after were satisfied at how we made the children happy. We were ecstatic as the prospect of being able to contribute back to the wider society.
How to improve?
Make it more child friendly and more interactive. We could have made the presentation longer and slower so as not to go too fast.
Storytelling group about “water conservation"
Jadden, Cayden, Joshua, Ryan Yong Kai, Sze Maine, Joshua , Xavier
1. What you did:
Joshua and Cayden made the slides; Kevin and Jadden presented them. Sze maine helped with the progress of the slides. Ryan and Xavier did the dry run but did not present.
2.what did you feel?
Before-unsure of what to present. Unsure how to present it, whether they will understand or be interested. After-thought we did alright. Maybe could’ve been more elaborate but improv was not bad and conveyed the main idea.
3. How did the group do?
Not bad especially since no specific script. Thought that slides were neat. Maybe we should consider how to make it longer.
“Life under Water” Skit
Jiwon, Darren, Glenda, Yueh Ying, Shannen, Tze Shan, Xin Ru, Wesley
1) We did a Skit talking about water pollution and the effects it has on aquatic life.
2) We will be a bit worried and anxious that they might not enjoy what we put up.
3) However, at the end of it, we felt accomplished and had a fun-filled experience. Job well done indeed.
