Description of project:
We were partnered with the Singapore Bone Marrow Donor Program (BMDP), which helped to raise awareness of blood diseases, as well as receiving possible bone marrow donors.
My class organised an online zoom meeting for possible applicants, in which we would start with a kahoot quiz on bone marrow donation, and then introduce BMDP’s cause and the importance of donating bone marrow. After our presentation, we finished the session with a Q and A session with our BMDP representative.
As a whole, I thought our audience was quite receptive to our message, and many of them interacted quite positively with us after the initial presentation.
Class Reflections:
The class found the whole experience a worthwhile and fruitful opportunity. Primarily the class felt pride and joy that they were able to contribute in their own way for a good cause like helping save people’s lives from disease. Many of our classmates also were willing to join the bone marrow donor register, as they found the presentation particularly inspiring. We enjoyed interacting with the audience, who expressed great interest in the project. However, many surveyees raised concerns about using the medium of a zoom meeting to impart our message. I would agree that it was indeed harder to spread the word through a zoom call than if it were held live. Many of the classmates who were not involved in the proceedings who spectated our presentation also reacted positively. Most of our classmates found it enjoyable and entertaining, yet was ultimately compelling in its delivery. Overall it was a positive experience, and the class enjoyed it greatly.
