Description of Project:
Our project consists of two segments, one is a concert and the other is an art and craft session. The whole project session took about 2 hours. We spent 15 minutes performing (singing and playing musical instruments) and 1.5 hours doing paper quilling. The elderly were very corporate and friendly. The students tried their best to engage and guide them during the session. At the end, we gave out some prizes and goodie bags to the elderly.
Class Reflections:
Students were shy at first but they eventually spread out and started to open up to the elderly. However, they tried their best to engage with the elderly. Some students were very sincere in their interactions with the elderly and patiently listened to the elderly, even though some of them had dementia and kept repeating what they wanted to say. We are glad to see the whole class working together, contributing to the same project and overcoming the challenges we came across in the process of preparing for the SL. Everyone on that day was trying to give the best performance. One thing that we think could have been done better is the concert. The concert could have been more organized with people knowing exactly what they have to do. Also, there was an Indian elderly but the whole concert section was in Chinese. It would be better to have considered non-Chinese elderly when planning. In conclusion, the performance turned out to be better than expected.
