Description of project:
We worked with the Bone Marrow Donor Programme (BMDP) for our JC2 SL Day project.
To spread the main messages:
Spread the word and raise awareness
To encourage students to be a part of the cause at BMDP to save lives
To share about BDMP’s cause and recruit potential marrow donors, empowering them with a chance to save a person’s life
Class Reflections:
What we knew before and after was important as what we presumed what bone marrow donation was about (removing the bone, painful surgery, serious complications, etc.) was different from what actually was the actual process (myths and facts) by clearing our doubts.
Furthermore, to spread awareness about it through a physical booth and letting Saints know about the importance and the role of the public in being potential bone marrow donors so they can be potential donors too.
It was actually quite difficult to get a good number of people to sign up to be potential bone marrow donors as it is hard to change people’s mindsets. It takes time for people to trust fully in the process.
All in all, it was a fruitful experience as we not only learnt new things about bone marrow donation, but also how to spread awareness through advocacy and service learning in the school.
