Our class partnered with 2 of the NTUC Senior Day Care centres for Service Learning day on 6 August 2021. We had to prepare programmes for 2 separate zoom sessions, which we spent a few weeks preparing for. We kickstarted our programme with an introduction and an ice-breaker activity of charades to interact with the seniors and to get them to know each other better. Afterwards, we presented to them a special dance video we had prepared which was National Day themed, and invited them to dance along. We had also prepared a Spotify playlist which was inclusive of National Day songs and songs from their generation, which we played during the intervals where there were technical difficulties or in between activities so that they would not feel too bored. We could tell that they had really enjoyed the programme as they participated actively. This was especially seen during the sing along session when the elderly were waving their hands enthusiastically.

Tarun:

i felt that the event was satisfying as i was able to bring my best to the elders for them to enjoy the activity at their finest. i conducted the charades game and the elders actively participated and i was very delightful.

Naresh:

I felt that the event was managed well by the students. I had a lot of fun carrying out the activities and dancing along with them. it was very heartwarming to see the elderly smiling and laughing while participating in the activities. I was even prompted to speak some Chinese to them. I would love to conduct another event similar to this to have this experience again.

Qasrina:

I feel that even though we faced technical difficulties, we still managed to overcome it and ensured that the whole thing flowed nicely. I think it was really nice to see the elderly participating in the activities we prepared. Even though it was over zoom, we still managed to have fun and interact with them which was very heartwarming.

Ling:

i feel that it is a meaningful activity as we got to entertain and spend time with the elderly through zoom, although there were technical difficulties, we managed to overcome them and I think we managed to have a smooth session.

Dominic:

I really sympathise with the elderly and I feel that I have to appreciate everything I have around me. Spending time with them made me feel more grateful for the company I have.

Javier:

I feel that what we did is very meaningful as we gave them an amazing time. I had as much as the elderly had, and I hope the activities we planned for them were interesting and entertaining enough for them.

Glendon:

I felt that it was a meaningful experience. I was happy to spend time with the elderly and make their national day more meaningful.
