Description of project:
Our SL project was to raise awareness among JC students about the Yellow Ribbon Project (YRP) which aims to promote an inclusive society by building empathy for ex-offenders.
We used instagram as a platform to post success stories of previous ex-offenders as well as ways for us as students to help YRP. On SL Day, the interview team went around school to interview students on their views of the Yellow Ribbon Project. The video clips were then edited by the video team and uploaded during the National Day holiday by the IG team. We also had some students from the research team go around school to promote our Instagram page. (@saintsyellowribbon)
Class Reflections:
Overall, SL day was fulfilling as we managed to give back to society and forge strong bonds as a class. The class was separated into 3 teams to do some planning tasks for the actual day and all 3 teams did an incredible job in their preparation. On the actual day, it was heartening to see all teams come together to help out when needed. For example, on that day the Research team had completed their tasks prior to that day as such they were willing to go around school to promote our Instagram page. Furthermore, we were caught by surprise when Mr Matthew Poh, the owner of ‘The Caffeine Experience’ and an ex-convict part of the Yellow Ribbon Project, had reached out to us and commented on our post.
We felt accomplished as we were able to make a difference in our society just by posting inspirational stories of these ex-convicts. Additionally, we also got our school principal Mr Tham to answer some of our interview questions! We are definitely thankful that he was willing to participate in our interview and share his thoughts on the Yellow Ribbon Project. Although we were not able to reach our goal of 200 followers however we were still able to garner 104 followers showing that we still manage to make a difference in a short span of two weeks.
