What did you do?
I decided to collect as many PET bottle caps as possible. My project started on December 3rd. Before starting my project, I found that there are two main ways to utilize caps after collecting caps.
・making some art with them.
・donating them to some NPO or NGO and so on.

私はペットボトルのキャップを出来るだけ多く集めようと決めました。私のプロジェクトは12月3日に始まりました。プロジェクトを始める前に、集めたキャップをどう利用出来るかについて考え、その方法を大きく二つ見つけまし た。一つ目はキャップを使って何かアートを作ること、二つ目はＮＰＯやＮＧＯに寄付することです。
この時、キャップを回収し、子供たちへのワクチンを製造している団体を知りました。
This is the second week’s caps I collected. pictures of PET bottle caps(from December 3rd to 9th)
・This week, I collected 6 caps.
・I had already had 14 caps, so the total number became 20.
Also, deHaan sensei and kaede and I went to see the trash cans in Kokkan after the class. There were no boxes to collect the caps. I wondered why it did not have any boxes.
これは、最初の週に集めたキャップについての写真です。（12月3日から9日まで）
最初の週は6個のキャップが集まりました。私はすでに家に14個のキャップがあったので合わせて20個になりました。また、ディハーン先生と友人の楓さん、そして私は授業後に国際関係学部等のゴミ箱を見に行きました。
しかし、キャップを集めるための箱はなく、なぜのなのだろうと気になりました。
This is the first week’s caps I collected. Caps this week. (from December 10th to 16th)(from December 10th to 16th)
・The first week, I collected only 3 caps, which is 7 grams.
・The total number of the caps is 23.
これは第2週目に集めたキャップです。（12月10日から16日まで）この週は、たった3個しか集まらず、重さは7グラムでした。合計は23個になりました。
This shows the third week result. caps this week.(From December 17th to 23th)
・I collected 3 caps as well as last week.
・The total number is 26.
I calculated how many caps I needed.2 kilograms caps become vaccines for one person.
Until that day, I collected 57 grams of caps. The total number of caps is 26. 57÷26= 2.19… about 2 grams per a cap. So, 2000g÷2g=1000 For a vaccine/peeron, generally we need about 1000 caps. 1000-26=974 From this, I found that I needed about 974 more caps.
これは3週目の結果を示しています。（12月17日から23日まで）前の週と同じく3個のキャップが集まり、合計26個です。また、私は一人分のワクチンを作るのに何個のキャップが必要なのかを計算しました。
その日までに、私は57グラムのキャップを集めました。個数は26個です。よって57÷26＝2.19…になり、キャップ一つの重さは約2グラムであることが分かりました。ワクチンを作るには2キロ、つまり2000グラムのキャップが必要 なので2000を2で割り、1000個、つまり、一人分のワクチンを作るには約1000個のキャップが必要だと分かりました。その時26個集めていたので、1000－26であと974個必要だと分かりました。
During my winter vacation, I continued my project and thanks to the cooperation of my family and grandparents, I could gather 315 grams of caps!
冬休み中もキャップ集めを続け、家族と祖父母の協力のおかげで315グラムのキャップを集めることが出来ました。
What were the outcomes?
Finally, the total number of the caps became 193!
I just lined them up, but this seems like a rainbow
From this, I found that various colors were used as PET bottle caps and it was possible to make art using them.
Also, through this project, I found that there was a system to collect the caps in the University of Shizuoka.
If the university sets the boxes to collect them, it can collect many caps in a short time because there are many people in the university.
In addition, I thought that there were fewer places to collect the caps than I had expected. For example, the apartment I live in does not have the boxes to collect them even though there are trash cans for PET bottles.
So, I hope that many people come to separate and sort into caps and bottles. When this custom becomes natural, society will be better.
最終的に、キャップは193個集まりました。これは全てのキャップの写真です。私は単に並べただけですが、虹のように見えます。
ここから、様々な色がペットボトルのキャップとして使われていることが分かります。また、このプロジェクトを通して、大学にはキャップを集めるための制度がないことに気が付きました。
もし大学がキャップを集めるための箱を設置したら、短期間でたくさんのキャップを集めることが出来るでしょう。なぜなら大学にはたくさんの人がいるからです。
加えて、思っていたよりキャップ回収を行っている場所が少ないと感じました。例えば、私の住んでいるマンションもペットボトルを捨てるごみ箱はありますが、キャップを集める箱はありません。
なので、私は多くの人がキャップとボトルを分別するようになればいいと思っています。この習慣が普通になった時、社会はより良くなると思います。
What Sustainable Development Goals does your project connect to?
goal 14 : Life below water
Plastic garbage has a bad effect on sea animals because if the garbage ends up in the sea, they may accidentally swallow them. As a result, they may die. So, it is important to decrease the amount of plastic garbage.
I collected PET bottle caps so, I think that my project contributed to decreasing the plastic garbage a little bit.
ゴール14：海の豊かさを守ろう
プラスチックゴミは海洋生物に悪い影響を与えます。なぜなら、もしゴミが海に捨てられてら、それをを誤飲するかもしれないからです。その結果、死に至る可能性もあります。
私はペットボトルのキャップを集めたので、少しはプラスチックごみを減らすことに貢献できたのではないかと思います。
goal 17: Partnership for the goals
In order to gather the caps, I needed to cooperate with other people. So, I asked my family, a friend and grandparents to cooperate with my project.
As a result, they collected the caps together and finally they gave me them. This is not a complete partnership, but I think that cooperation with others is one kind of partnership.
Partnership will be indispensable to achieve a goal.
ペットボトルの キャップを集めるために、私には他の人との協力が必要でした。なので、私は家族、友達そして祖父母にプロジェクトに協力してくれないか頼みました。
その結果、彼らは一緒にキャップを集めてくれ、最終的にはそのキャップを私にくれました。これは、完全にはパートナーシップとは言えないでしょうが、私は他者との協力はパートナーシップの一種だと思います。
一つのゴールを達成するためにはパートナーシップは不可欠でしょう。
goal 12 : Responsible consumption and production
One of the targets in this goal is that “By 2030, substantially reduce waste generation through prevention, reduction, recycling and reuse”. This is related to my project.
By making something using the caps, I can reuse them.
ゴール12：つくる責任 つかう責任
このゴールのターゲットの一つには、‟2030年までに、廃棄物の発生防止、削減、再生利用及び再利用により、廃棄物の発生を大幅に削減する” というものがあります。
これは私のプロジェクトに関連しているでしょう。集めたキャップを使って何かをつくることで、そのキャップをリユースすることが出来ます。
What did you do well?
I did a good job collecting caps. Every week, I recorded how many caps I gathered in a week. By recording, I could guess the average of caps I collected per a week.
私はキャップを集めることを上手くやりました。毎週、私はその宗にどれくらいのキャップを集めたかについて記録しました。記録することで、一週間で平均何個集められるのか推測することが出来ました。
What could you have done better?
I could have asked more friends to collect the caps together. I asked my family and grandparents and a friend, but I needed to ask more friends to cooperate with me.
Also, I could have made some boxes to gather the caps in university. If I had made them, I would have gotten more caps because I could have collected them from various people who are not acquaintances.
However, I did not have the power to execute it.
For example, I did not have the courage to do it. I’m introverted, so I hesitated to try something that everyone paid attention to. Also, I did not have much time to do it. Recently, I had many final tests and reports.
Therefore, I could not make time for making the box and setting it.
私はもっと多くの友達に一緒にキャップを集めてほしいと頼むことが出来たかもしれません。家族と祖父母と一人の友達には頼みましたが、自分に協力してくれる友達がもっと必要でした。
また、大学にキャップを集めるための箱をつくることが出来たと思います。もし、その箱を作っていれば、自分の知り合い出ない人からもより多くのキャップを集められたでしょう。
しかし、私にはそれを実行する力がありませんでした。
例えば、私にはそれを行う勇気がありませんでした。私は内向的なので、他の人に見られるようなことをするのをためらってしまいました。また、実行する時間があまりありませんでした。最近、私は期末テストやレポートがたく さんあり、箱を作ったり、設置する時間をとることが出来ませんでした。
What did you learn?
I learned that it was hard to gather many caps by myself. At the same time, I also learned the importance of cooperation with people around me.
If there had been no cooperation with them, I would not have collected such an amount of caps in a short time.
私は、一人でキャップを集めることは難しいということを学びました。それと同時に、周囲の人と協力することの大切さも学びました。
もし、彼らの協力がなかったら、短期間でこの量を集めることは出来なかったでしょう。
In addition, I learned the meaning of the color of caps. Throughout this project, I noticed that PET bottle caps have various colors like white, orange, blue and so on.
So, I searched the meaning of colors on the internet. The list below shows the result.
加えて、キャップの色の意味についても分かりました。このプロジェクトを通して私はペットボトルのキャップは白やオレンジ、青などの様々な色があることに気づきました。
なので、インターネットでその意味について調べてみました。下のリストはその結果を示しています。
Color (色） Meaning （意味）
White （白） General caps 一般的なキャップ
Orange （オレンジ） Hot drinks (this means that the bottle is resistant to heat) ホットドリンク（耐熱性がある）
Blue, light blue （青、水色） Cold drink (we can freeze the bottle.) 冷たい飲み物（凍らせることが出来る）
Other color （その他） Image of the drink (for example, citrus juice→yellow, coke→ red) その飲み物のイメージ （例 柑橘系のジュース→黄色、コーラ→赤）
How does this project connect to your future?
By trying this project, I can decrease the amount of plastic garbage in the future because I will not throw away the caps but collect them and donate or recycle them.
Also, I can make something useful with the caps, which may make my life in the future comfortable.
このプロジェクトに挑戦することで、私は将来のプラスチックごみの量を減らすことができるでしょう。なぜならキャップを捨てるのではなく集め、寄付したりリサイクルしたりするからです。
また、キャップで便利な何かを作ることもできます。それは私の将来の生活を快適にするでしょう。
How will this project be sustained/continued?
Even though this class is finished, I can continue to collect the PET bottle caps in daily life. If I continue doing it, I will be able to get more caps. Then, I can donate them for vaccines in developing countries.
この授業が終わったとしても、私は日常生活の中でペットボトルのキャップを集め続けることができます。もし、それを続けていけば、より多くのキャップを集められるでしょう。そうしたら、発展途上国でのワクチンのために寄付することが出来ます。
What advice do you have for: future students, collaborators, other people?
Small things around you connect to SDGs and good society. Thanks to this class, I noticed it. If I had not tried my project, I would have spent my life without thinking about SDGs around me deeply.
This class will give you some opportunities to think about what a truly sustainable society is and try new things. So, I recommend you participate in PBLⅡB.
身の回りの小さなことがSDGｓや良い社会に繋がります。この授業のおかげで私はそのことに気が付きました。もし自分のプロジェクトに挑戦していなかったら、私は身の回りのSDGｓについて深く考えることなく生活していたで しょう。この授業は本当に持続可能な社会とは何かを考える機会、また新しいことに挑戦する機会を与えてくれるでしょう。なので、PBLⅡBに参加することをおすすめします。
