Sunshine at midnight

Who am I? Who do I want to be?
I am a man who can talk with lots of different kinds of human beings. No matter what social identity you are,you are a government officer, businessman, officer stuff, student, homeless, artist or housewife, I can and I like to talk to you.
I want to be that kind of person who could be a benefit to society.
What local and global problems am I aware of?
Local problems
Personally, I want some more friends. Not those types of friends which just say hi and goodbye when we meet. I'm caring about myself, that is the most important thing in this world.
Global problems
Worldwide, the biggest problems should be wars.
I believe most countries are in an economic decline.
Energy crunch is still a problem even if oil reserves seem like enough for a while, but there is going to be a shortage one day.
What Sustainable Development Goals have I learned about?
Goal 5 Gender Equality
Information:Japan's new gender pay gap disclosure rules are set to be strengthened, requiring many Japanese firms to report new information by June next year.
Goal 5 Gender Equality
Information:The gender gap in pay has remained relatively stable in the United States over the past 20 years or so.
Goal 5 Gender Equality
Information:Although the gender wage gap in China during the transition period has an impact that is statistically significant and economically meaningful, it remains at a low level.
What did I do and learn in my fieldwork?
What was my research question?
Do apartments in Japan turn the light on all night, every night?
Why is this important to me?
One day I went back home late, I saw light from an apartment, it was bright like the sun.
What did I do?
I walked around to see if that was true with my own eyes. And I took some photos.
What data did I collect?
All apartments I visited turn the light on.All apartments, everyday.
What trends did I find in the data?
Japanese people consider turning the lights on all night as a normal thing.
How does my fieldwork connect to my future?
I think I will still be alive for some years, so making this world better is good for myself. Then I hope human beings could save electric energy.
What do I think would be a useful project to work towards achieving the SDGs?
Short summary: Japanese people consider that leaving the lights on makes them feel safe, so I am trying to make a plan that can save energy and make them feel good. I suggest the neighborhood could make some groups. Maybe ten families in one group and they could use one light.

Reflection
What I learned this semester: Caring about our environment more. Before this class, I didn’t care, or even know what SDGs are.
What I did well: I think I met some new friends.
What I could have done better:If I could set my goal more clearly at first, I could save some time to make my project better.
The connection to my future: I learned lots of things by taking this class. That should help me one day someday.
Advice for other students: Take Dr.deHaan’s class as much as possible.
