Matthew 7:24-29
Foundation in Life
24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”
28 When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, 29 because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.
St. Thomas Aquinas wrote, “If the highest aim of a captain were to preserve his ship, he would keep it in port forever.”...
And I believe that while we are in the midst of this pandemic they call coronavirus, our aim will eventually be to live a life as our Father in Heaven wants us to...So now while we are being hit and hit hard by one of the storms of life, and the streams are rising, and the heavy winds are blowing against us, as Jesus talks about...We must see beyond the port...Our aim, when the storm is over, is not just to survive and to preserve the ship...Our lives must be lived in a way that we do those things that God would want us to do, and we must eventually get out and leave the port...
Let us continue to remember our faith, and the Rock where it stands...
