Matthew 7:24-29
Jesus Taught With Great Authority
24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”
28 When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, 29 because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.
Jesus' teaching style was unique and very effective...People to this day remember much of what He taught two thousand years ago...And people are still studying Jesus and His Teachings today...
Here are some key characteristics that made him a Master Teacher...He is a Master Storyteller...He used parables, which are short fictional narratives that convey a moral or spiritual lesson...These parables were relatable to life, memorable, and sparked curiosity among His listeners and followers, even those who disagreed with Him...Some examples of His Parables are the Parable of the Good Samaritan, The Parable of the Mustard Seed, The Parable of the Lost Coin, Parable of the Lost Sheep, and The Parable of the Prodigal Son...
Jesus used simple language so His listeners would understand Him...Jesus avoided complex theological jargon...When He gave us the Beatitudes the people understood His message...He spoke in a clear and concise way, using everyday language and metaphors that people could understand, regardless of their education or background...In His teaching above it is easily understood...Those who follow His teachings are like someone who builds a house on rock, which can withstand strong storms...Those who don't follow the teachings are like someone who builds on sand, and their house will crumble when faced with troubles and challenges...
He often asked questions and brought others into His discussions with His and their dialogue to teach...Jesus didn't simply lecture...He frequently asked questions to challenge assumptions, stimulate critical thinking, and draw His audience into the learning process...
Jesus used everyday objects and situations to illustrate His Teachings...This made His message more concrete and engaging for His listeners, followers and His Disciples...His teachings often evoked emotions like compassion, wonder, or even outrage...This emotional connection helped His message resonate with people on a deeper level...He focused His Teachings on His Father...And those wanting to know more about God followed Him around listening to His teachings as learned by God, His Father...Jesus' teachings weren't just theoretical...He spoke on the importance of love, faith, and forgiveness for instance...He emphasized the importance of putting His Words into action and living a life that reflected His message...He regularly went around forgiving others...
These teaching methods proved highly effective in conveying Jesus' message to a wide range of people...His teachings transcended social status, religious background, and educational level...They still do today...Jesus spoke with authority, even though He wasn't trained as a rabbi or other recognized religious leader, He knew more about God, His Father and the world and universe than anyone else ever to walk on earth...People were struck by His conviction and the power of His message...He taught as One who had Great Authority, and not as their teachers of the law...
Jesus made His connections to our everyday lives and thoughts...Jesus' teachings addressed real-life issues and concerns that people faced daily...Faith, hope, love, and forgiveness are important issues in our lives...This made His message relevant and relatable...
Jesus' teachings and message and Ministry continues to influence educators and religious leaders today...His methods serve as a model for clear, engaging, and impactful communication...
