Matthew 6:5-15
The LORD's Prayer
5 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
9 “This, then, is how you should pray:
“‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
10 your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.’
14 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.
Matthew 6:33-34
First Seek the Kingdom of God
33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Our minds search for righteousness and justice...This desire for righteousness and justice must come from somewhere on Someone...This search seems like a natural desire that God has given us...Our LORD tells us that this is the first thing we should seek, while worrying less about the other things we are searching for...And this search may also be caused because this world is broken and is need of fixing...So we go about searching for a Kingdom that is Perfect and Right and Good...And this Kingdom, this Righteous Kingdom is in heaven...
When we first seek this Kingdom, everything else will come to us more abundantly...
And this search of ours just happens to be mentioned right in the middle of the LORD’s Prayer...When we hear our LORD's teaching on prayer we see the LORD is teaching us about this seeking and searching of righteousness...The LORD says Thy Kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven....He is telling us that there is this Righteous Place where our LORD has ascended and it is Perfect and Good and Just...
