Matthew 6:9-15
The LORD's Prayer
9 “This, then, is how you should pray:
“‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
10 your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.’
14 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.
Acts 4:12
Jesus is Our Only Savior
12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.
Peter tells us that our personal salvation is found only in Jesus...Salvation is an act of forgiving...Jesus is the One who saves us from our sins...He forgives us of our sins...Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved...
Jesus is forgiving...He is the One who forgives us our our sinning ways and our sinful nature, and forgives us of our sins...
As we read the LORD's Prayer, Jesus tells us to pray to our Father and ask for Him to forgive us of our debts, as we have forgiven our debtors...For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you...But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins...
And so Jesus ties our sins to those of others...He tells us unless we forgive others who have sinned against us, our Father will not forgive us...Jesus puts it this way, "But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins."...
Jesus taught and knows all about forgiveness...Jesus taught a lot about forgiving others and God forgiving us...It is very much embedded in His Prayer that He taught His Disciples...Jesus tells us to ask our Father for forgiveness, as we forgive those who have sinned against us...I think a very good short prayer is: Father, may I be forgiving and forgiven...
