Matthew 6:25-34
Do Not Worry
25"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?
28"And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' 32For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Seeking God is very important in our lives...The mathematician Pascal tells us their are three kinds of people...The first is those who seek God and have found Him...This group is both wise and happy...The second group is those who seek God and have not yet found Him...This group is wise, but not yet happy...The third group is those who do not seek God, and therefore have not found Him...These people are neither wise, nor happy...If one believes this, to be happy, we therefore must seek God...To be happy or to get to happiness we must seek God...And to add to the seeking, God should be the priority in our lives...But this is difficult, while living on earth, and all the earthly things to di...
Jesus teaches us that not only should we seek God, and by learning not to worry, we learn better to trust in the LORD...When we continually seek Him, we learn to let go and let God...
Jesus tells us in verse thirty three that if we seek God and His kingdom first and His righteousness, all the other things in our lives will be given to us...If God is first in our lives, our priorities will be aligned correctly...But with the earthly life, this is a hard teaching...With our families, our work, our busy lives, our friends, and many other things seem to get in the way...We can drift away from seeking Him periodically...Nonetheless, Jesus tells us that we should seek Him, His kingdom, and His righteousness first...Then all things will be better...
We are made up of mind, body, and soul...Jesus encourages us to work on our souls first and the other things important to us will take care of themselves, if we trust in the LORD (first and only first)...
When we seek His righteousness, we are looking for God and happiness...Jesus in His Sermon on the Mount talks about righteousness...Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled (Matthew 5:6)...Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven (Matthew 5:10)...
Jesus ties seeking God, happiness, blessedness, and righteousness together...These things give us happiness on earth, or as He says all these other things will be given to us...Life is not about worrying about tomorrow...If we worry about our tomorrow's health, or tomorrow's clothes, tomorrow's food or just tomorrow in general, we will not be happy or peaceful...We can wind up ruminating and worrying our lives away... When we seek God and improve to trust in Him the earthly things are more reconciled, happier, and we are more peaceful in our lives...
