Matthew 6:5-15
The LORD's Prayer
5 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
9 “This, then, is how you should pray:
“‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
10 your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.’
14 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.
Romans 7:7-25
Struggles With Sin
7 What shall we say, then? Is the law sinful? Certainly not! Nevertheless, I would not have known what sin was had it not been for the law. For I would not have known what coveting really was if the law had not said, “You shall not covet.” 8 But sin, seizing the opportunity afforded by the commandment, produced in me every kind of coveting. For apart from the law, sin was dead. 9 Once I was alive apart from the law; but when the commandment came, sin sprang to life and I died. 10 I found that the very commandment that was intended to bring life actually brought death. 11 For sin, seizing the opportunity afforded by the commandment, deceived me, and through the commandment put me to death. 12 So then, the law is holy, and the commandment is holy, righteous and good.
13 Did that which is good, then, become death to me? By no means! Nevertheless, in order that sin might be recognized as sin, it used what is good to bring about my death,so that through the commandment sin might become utterly sinful.
14 We know that the law is spiritual; but I am unspiritual, sold as a slave to sin. 15 I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. 16 And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. 17 As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. 18 For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. 19 For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing. 20 Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.
21 So I find this law at work: Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me. 22 For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; 23 but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within me. 24 What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? 25 Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!
So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God’s law, but in my sinful nature a slave to the law of sin.
God's will gets done...It always gets done...It is because God is God...God has Divine Providence over earth, heaven, and all the universe...
So, if one believes that God is Provident, then His will gets done over time...Maybe not in the current and present moment, but over time, His will does gets done...
Jesus tells us in His LORD's Prayer to pray that God's will get done on earth, the same as it does get done in heaven...So when we pray, let us pray that there be full establishment on earth of God's will, just as it is fully established in heaven...Let us always pray that earth be controlled and over God's will, just as heaven is...
We are to follow His will...But this remains difficult for us, leaving our influence (completely) out of things and completely trusting Him in our daily decisions...So we can see that Jesus (in His Prayer) is teaching us, that we do not always do His Father's will, but we should do His will on earth, just as the angels in heaven do His will...And to believe and know about God's will and want to do His will, we have to pray for His will to get done on earth...And so when we do our will, and not God's will -then we can see how God's will might get delayed...But nonetheless, His will does eventually get done, because of God being Provident and having Divine Providence...
One of the Saints, believed these things about God's will...Jesus told one of His Saints, St. Faustina, "Fear nothing, I AM always with you...And know this, too, My daughter: all creatures, whether they know it or not, and whether they want to or not, always fulfill My will."...
So whether we know it or not, or want it or not, and even if we like it or not -God's will does get done...God's will has to get done...God's will is always fulfilled...God is, in fact, Provident over all things...
The interesting thing in my life is that I most of the time go about doing my will instead of His will...And I know that His will is much more important than my will...I know His will is much, much wiser than my will...I really do not know why this is...Maybe it is my sinful nature that does it by habit and reaction...But God wants me to follow His will all the time and not just on a part-time basis or just when I need Him...
In the end, we can see that Thy will gets done on earth as it does in heaven...
St. Faustina said a beautiful prayer on God's will..."Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless, and the treasury of compassion inexhaustible, look kindly upon us, and increase Your mercy in us, that in difficult moments we might not despair nor become despondent, but with great confidence submit ourselves to Your holy will, which is love and mercy itself."...
