Matthew 7:13-14
The Narrow Path and the Wide Path
13 “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.
Mark 8:35
The Path in This Life
35 For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it.
Matthew 11:29-30
Take My Yoke, for I AM Gentile and Humble in Heart
29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."
John 10:10 (KJV)
Jesus Gives Us a More Abundant Life
10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
John 14:27
Jesus Gives Us a Different Type of Peace
27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
God gives us free will...Jesus is a path in our lives, we can choose to take...Following His Word gives us guidance, along the path of life...And His Light gives us more purpose in life...Following His path is not easy...To get there we must go through a narrow gate, and follow the straight and narrow...And it is very easy to lose the Light of the lamp and get off the small narrow path and find one that is wide, broad, and just plain easy to follow and do...
Jesus teaches us that those who follow Him -will lose this life...Those that get on this narrow path and follow His Light and His Word will find that they will give up some old things in their life...We must leave some of our old ways and some of our old ways of thinking...This is not easy...Some of the things that we do give up to follow Him, when we reflect on Him and His Way -we find out that they really weren't that important of as a way of life, or a treasure that would last (although at the time we first thought of those things and those ways -they were very important to us)...
And when He teaches us to take His yoke and to learn from Him and that He is gentile and humble in heart...We get an additional weight...And with this additional yoke of His, that we have taken from Him -somehow we will find rest...This is such an odd paradox...We are to not only travel a straight and narrow path in life, and now we must take upon our necks, an additional load -His yoke to find a peace and a rest that only He can give...But on His path there are things we will gain, that we will have, and we will learn (from this yoke)...Those who can keep on the path of righteousness will find a peace...They will have a fuller life, a more abundant life...And when one's heart is gentile and humble, and the mind is not full of thoughts of like -what must I do today, will I get all the things done today that I need to, what happened to me yesterday -can I go back and work on that, boy am I worried today, I have a boring life -how can I change it, or will I time to be with my friends tonight...When we can free our hearts and mind of our old life and give up trying to save what we used to do and have each day and find Him, there is a peace and rest for our souls that is not found in this world...
When we learn from this yoke, that being humble in our hearts is the proper way, the Jesus Way, then we find this peace He speaks of and then realize His yoke is not that heavy, and His burden is Light...We feel a fuller life...We find that peace, that is quite different from our old ways and our old ways of thinking...
