5 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

Alone in Fasting
16 When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show others they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.
Jesus teaches us that we need to spend time alone with our Father in Heaven...He often withdrew to lonely places so that He could pray...Jesus teaches us that when we do things with His Father, it is good to be alone with Him, when we do them...He teaches us not to be like the hypocrites praying, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others while praying...Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full...But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen...Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you...And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words...Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him...
There are some things we are to alone with our Father...
And then Jesus adds that when we do a sacred fast, it is not that we fast and do things for God that are for other men, and other men to see...So when you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show others they are fasting...Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full...So, if you fast, you are not to look somber or gloomy...
Praying and your personal time with God is not to be a show for other men...Communicate with God alone and do many of you sacred and holy things alone...These are sacred times for yourself to be with God...Have many sacred times each day alone with the LORD...Withdraw to lonely places and pray and be with God...Have alone time with God...
