Matthew 6:9-15
God's Will Be Done
9 “This, then, is how you should pray:
“‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
10 your kingdom come,
your will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today our daily bread.
12 Forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.’
14 For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.
Jesus tells us when we pray to our Father, we should ask for His will be done not only in heaven, but also on our earth...As we watch and read the news we, as believers, can see that our world has gone off center...We see suffering, fear, troubles in this world...For Jesus to teach us to pray that our earth be more like heaven, is not only a remarkable prayer, but when we step back and think about these words, it is remarkably simple...But the simpleness leaves and evades us, because Jesus is teaching us to do the will of our Father, and not our own will...
Those who come to terms with this world and its pleasures, desires, its material bent -often see no reason for this earth, to be as it is in heaven...So there are really two schools of thoughts about the world...Some just see this is the world, and this is how it is...The Great Saints saw that the world was not quite what it should be...They saw and see themselves and humankind as sinners...But the Great Saints know that God created the world and the Garden of Eden...That is and was our earth, and man's potential...The garden was paradise...Man was in harmony with His Maker...I think Eden, on earth until the fall of man, was as similar to heaven as earth can be...Our Great Saints saw us reaching our potential again, with the help of a Son...
We have lost our way from the long-ago Eden...For us to get back to the garden, we must follow the one who came for sinners...When we follow Jesus we admit the world has gone wrong...Jesus instructs us that God do His will on earth, the same as He does His will in heaven...We then will follow God's will and not our own...But God has given us free choice and free will...We behave as we do making the choices we make...And this is why the world is what it is...We cannot quite seem to do what we need to do, to make the world the place it can be...We need Jesus...Without Him the world will remain as it is...With everyone following Him, each of us can reach their potential, and be the world as God envisions it to be...Our earth will be like His heaven...If we could follow our Messiah and let His will be done on earth, instead of our own, we can get back to Eden...
