Matthew 6:25-34
Do Not Worry
25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life[?
28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Acts 4:12
Jesus is Our Only Savior
12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.
Matthew 7:13-14
The Narrow and Wide Gates
13 “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.
Everyone has a world view or a belief in how what the world surrounds them is like...Some see the Christian religion and God and Jesus as a way that frightens them into trying to live a life differently than they would if They (God and His Son) did not exist...For instance, in the past some have posted signs about living for today, and not for the afterlife...This type of belief that God takes things away from this life, because we need to do things a different way if we want to go to heaven...I might say, that God does want us to live right and to love others...
I do not think Jesus teaches us to live for tomorrow on earth...He wanted His Disciples and those He taught to live for today...That is exactly how He lived on earth...In one of His teachings He tells us do not worry...And worry is about today and what we are thinking about in this day...
So when He tell us that the road to living a righteous life is a narrow one and the road to destruction is a wide one, I do not think He is telling and teaching us to be frightened of what He is saying, but He is wanting us to do right and live right today and always...To live by and for love...And to love His Father and Him and all of our neighbors...
I would think even the non-believer as he reads the daily headlines can see that this world is in need of help as we read about terrorism, injustice, wars in many places, injustice, death, drugs, and crime...The world does need help...The newspapers and the internet headlines are not a philosophy or philosophy book, rather they are our world’s current events...These current events are what is actually happening in the world today (and not tomorrow)...So we all should see that we (and the world) are in need of help...I would think whether you believe in Jesus or not, one would see that in this world that we currently live, we are in need of help and a Savior and that we need His salvation...
