Matthew 6:5-15
Prayer
5 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
9 “This, then, is how you should pray:
“‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
10 your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.'
14 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.
Jesus, in His Model Prayer, instructs us to pray: "Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors" (Matthew 6:12)..."For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you "(Matthew 6:14-15)..But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins...These powerful statements link our own forgiveness to the forgiveness we receive from God...
Forgiveness is central to living a Christian life...Forgiveness reflects God’s Grace and LOVE...God's forgiveness of our sins is the cornerstone of the Christian faith...We are all sinners, deserving of God's wrath, yet He, in His Infinite Mercy, offers us forgiveness through the sacrifice of His Son, Jesus Christ...To truly understand and experience God's Grace, we must strive to extend that same grace and love to others...
Forgiveness breaks the cycle of bitterness...Unforgiveness breeds bitterness, resentment, and anger of your neighbors...You become less tolerant of others when you do forgive them or refuse to forgive them...It creates a cycle of negativity that harms both the forgiver and the one who has been wronged...A non-forgiving person is generally not a healthy person, because negative attitude toward others can take a toll on your health, if we habitually are non-forgiving...Forgiveness helps us breaks this cycle, allowing for healing and reconciliation with others...Unforgiveness can damage relationships, leading to social isolation and loneliness...Without forgiveness and a forgiving attitude, we trust others less...But with a forgiving attitude we better build healthy connections with our neighbors...
Forgiveness helps us experience true freedom and can bring more peace to our lives...Holding onto grudges and harboring resentment can be a heavy burden...Forgiveness, however, sets us free from the emotional and spiritual bondage of bitterness...It allows us to experience true freedom and inner peace...
Forgiveness is directly related to Jesus' command to love our enemies, which is a radical call to live out the Gospel in its fullness...Loving others challenges us to be more forgiving...It challenges us to extend compassion and forgiveness even to those who have hurt us deeply...This is a powerful testimony to the transformative power of God's LOVE in our lives...Jesus, in His life, death, and resurrection, demonstrated the ultimate act of forgiveness...He forgave those who crucified Him, offering salvation even to His enemies...As followers of Christ, we are called to imitate His example, extending grace and forgiveness to all...
Forgiveness does not mean minimizing the pain or suffering caused by the offense...Forgiveness is a process, a journey of healing and reconciliation...It may not always be easy and most of the time it is very difficult to forgive others, and it may take time for one to forgive others and to become more forgiving...
In conclusion, forgiveness is not merely a religious duty; it is an essential component of a healthy and more peaceful fulfilling life...By extending forgiveness to others, we not only demonstrate our love for God and our neighbor, but we also experience the profound freedom and healing that come from releasing the burden of resentment and embracing the Grace that God has freely offered to us...
