Matthew 7:13-14
The Narrow and Wide Gates
13 “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.
John 14:6
The Way, the Truth, The Way of Life
6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
I believe that most men like to make their own decisions and be in control...And through God's free will we are basically given two choices...Jesus said that there is this narrow gate in life and a wide gate...When we go through the wide gate broad, is the road that leads to our destruction, yet many will enter through it...But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few look to find that one...So why do we want to take the wide gate and follow its path?...
The wide gate and its road is the easiest road...We get to make all of our own decisions when we follow that path...We can be and do without God or His Son...Our thoughts do not have to include Them...They are not involved in our daily decisions that we make, when we follow that road...When we get God and Jesus involved then the road seems to narrow for us, because we cannot always do our own thing, and we must listen to the Ones who know the Truth and how the world really is and our lives should be...And even though we know that this is the right way to live, sometimes it seems on earth that is just best to do it my may, or our way -man's way...That is the way that we want to do things...After all, what is wrong with doing the things and making the decisions we want to make and not have to worry about God and His Son...
Well that is where the rub is...There is an Absolute Truth, and Absolute Way, and the Way to the Eternal Good Life...God is always watching us...God gives us our free will to choose the path we want...The wide road is just easy and we get to do whatever we want...The narrow road is blessed with the Truth of God's Word, yet to follow it we have to listen to Someone else...It is the Good Way of Life...God and His Son get to be involved in the daily decisions we make, when we say our daily prayers and communicate with Them regularly and continuously...
After a while, and it is generally when we come to our senses, when we are older and maybe more mature in the different experiences we have had...We have seen in reflecting on our brief life, that in life there has been some troubles, some sufferings, some grief, and we have lost some of our friends and family along the way...The paths maybe a little clearer now...
Both the narrow path and wide paths have Someone looking down on them...But the wide path, seems to be the one to let us control our own life and own fate, or so it seems...But this is not true, because God is Truth, the Way, and the Life...God is over all times and over all situations, and over all the Ways in our Life...And in the end God's Will gets done -no matter what...
