John 1:1-18
The Word Becomes Flesh
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
6 There was a man sent from God whose name was John. 7 He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. 8 He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.
9 The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.
14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
15 (John testified concerning him. He cried out, saying, “This is the one I spoke about when I said, ‘He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’”) 16 Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given. 17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.
Luke 4:14-30
Jesus Rejected at Nazareth
14 Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about him spread through the whole countryside. 15 He was teaching in their synagogues, and everyone praised him.
16 He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. He stood up to read, 17 and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written:
18 “The Spirit of the Lord is on me,
because he has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners
and recovery of sight for the blind,
to set the oppressed free,
19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
20 Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him. 21 He began by saying to them, “Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”
22 All spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his lips. “Isn't this Joseph’s son?” they asked.
23 Jesus said to them, “Surely you will quote this proverb to me: ‘Physician, heal yourself!’ And you will tell me, ‘Do here in your hometown what we have heard that you did in Capernaum.’”
24 “Truly I tell you,” he continued, “no prophet is accepted in his hometown. 25 I assure you that there were many widows in Israel in Elijah’s time, when the sky was shut for three and a half years and there was a severe famine throughout the land. 26 Yet Elijah was not sent to any of them, but to a widow in Zarephath in the region of Sidon. 27 And there were many in Israel with leprosy in the time of Elisha the prophet, yet not one of them was cleansed—only Naaman the Syrian.”
28 All the people in the synagogue were furious when they heard this. 29 They got up, drove him out of the town, and took him to the brow of the hill on which the town was built, in order to throw him off the cliff. 30 But he walked right through the crowd and went on his way.
Matthew 6:9-11
God's Will
9 "This, then, is how you should pray:
" 'Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
10 your kingdom come,
your will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today our daily bread.
John 14:5-14
Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life
5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”
6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”
8 Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.”
9 Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. 11 Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves. 12 Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. 13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.
The Word was with God, and the Word was God...The Word that God spoke in the beginning brought about and gave us creation...God spoke and was active during the creation process...God became active and involved and sent the Word to us on earth...He wanted to dwell among us...The Word became flesh...And He sent Someone...Someone that could show us the Way...Someone who could show us about life...Someone who can speak and show us all about Truth...The Word became personal to us...The Word remains personal, very personal to the ones that follow Him...The Word is the One and Only...He is the Divine Son of God...He has this unique and personal relationship with His Father, who is God...The Word was with God in the beginning and is Divine and eternal...
The Word is Logos and the Word means Logos...And Logos is both the spoken Word and the unspoken Word...It is the Word still in the mind and the Word is reason...The Logos, the Word is the purpose of life itself...Jesus came to earth and now the Kingdom of God on earth has started...Jesus is the Kingdom of God...God's Kingdom is shown to us by Jesus...Jesus is God's Kingdom being done on earth...His Kingdom began on earth, when He came to earth...When He was in the synagogues teaching and when He read to others that "The Spirit of the Lord is on Me, because He has anointed Me to proclaim good news to the poor...He has sent Me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”...And when He rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down, the eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on Him...He began by saying to them, “Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”...God's Kingdom is a Person, a Son...And in His Prayer, when He now says that God's will is to be done on earth, the very same as it is in heaven...It has started...The process has begun...God's Kingdom on earth has started with God's will now being done on earth...Jesus had started His Kingdom on earth...And it is a personal Kingdom...
The Eternal Word, since He is Divine and eternal, teaches us the eternities...And we learn about eternity and heaven from Him...Yet, His Way, the Way is clouded by our dreams, our successes, our failures, and our ways...What we do each and everyday gets in the way of His Way...Our earthly ways...Thomas really had a very good question...We really do not know the Way...But Jesus says, He is the Way...He is the potential for humanity...He is the Absolute Truth in Life...His life is how we should live ours...We learn from His Truth, His Life, and His Way...
And we know from God's Son and from the LORD's Prayer that God's Will does get done on earth as Jesus tells us it does...So to put it a matter of fact, God's Will does get done on earth, whether we notice it or not, because His Son has announced to us and the world that God's Will gets done on earth...
