Matthew 7:13-14
The Narrow and Wide Gates
13 “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.
Jesus teaches us much about sin, and we very much need this knowledge on sin...We need His teachings, it seems more today, than ever...It seems that in Jesus' time, when He walked the earth, the people knew of sin and what it does to the soul...In our world today, it seems that when we mess up, we easily tolerate that mess up...If we mess up and it is a sin, we need Jesus...It seems we have reached a point in society, where everyone wants to think I'm okay, your okay...It seems our culture and society is more tolerant of sin than in the time of Jesus...After all, we should remember that Jesus forgave the sins of many of the people He taught and met...
Are we forgetting what sin is, and what it does?...Do we need a Messiah, if everything is permissible?...Do we even see ourselves, our children, and our family as sinners?... They are sinners...It is Jesus, who tells us that only God is good...Some may think that sin does not exist as much in the modern world, as it did in the ancient days...But as technology advances and people live in bigger and bigger cities, and live closer together, sin and evil still exist...Maybe there is so much going on today, and man is more preoccupied, and that gives sin a back seat, we tuck it away, and try to forget about it...But people sin as much today, as they did in Jesus' time...
There is evil around us, and we are sinners...Until we talk about this, and confess we are sinners in today's world (like we talk about the weather), sin may become an antiquated word to the world (if it hasn't already to our children and grandchildren)...Until we spend more time in our Bibles than we do on our smartphones, we continue down that broad road...Until we follow God's will instead of our own desires and will we will continue down that broad road to our destruction....
We still sin...We must never forget that our sins killed our LORD...I must never forget, my sins we the reason He was crucified on the cross...So yes, we need Jesus...We need the One who died for our sins...We need a Savior...We need our Savior...
