Matthew 6:28-30
The Beautiful Presence of the Lilies
28"And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
Jesus is very wise, and has great insight...He is completely aware of the present moment and He knows the eternal...He is always aware of what is around Him...He noticed the lilies of field and saw their great beauty...He sees the green grass, the blue skies, the beautiful trees that surround our yards, He sees the colors of autumn, and the beautiful scenes of winter...He sees these things and knows how to enjoy them and their beauty...
When we are busy, when we think constantly about the future, or worry about the past, we miss some great things like the beauty of the lilies...Most of us get distracted by life and what is going on in our day to day responsibilities and habits...Some people just think they don't have time to see the lilies...Our minds and thoughts easily drift into our work, what we are doing tomorrow, something we did in the past, our families, and we simply miss the lilies...
Jesus is teaching us first to stop and to live in the present moment...Then He is teaching us to pay attention to what we are doing now...Do not worry about the past...Stop and pay attention to the lilies...They are and maybe the most beautiful thing we see today...Stop, pay attention, and enjoy the lilies...
We will reach an age when we think and reflect...What was I working for, what was I thinking about, and how much did I and have I missed?...Our mind and our thoughts was or were some where else, it was worrying about the past or busy thinking about tomorrow...Jesus is telling us that right here, right now, if we do not learn to stop and pay attention to these small, yet great things everyday, someday years will have passed and we possibly will have missed so much of the splendor of lilies of the field...These small daily enjoyable things make a life so much better...
