Matthew 6:11
This Day
11 Give us today our daily bread.
Matthew 6:34
This Day, Not Tomorrow
34Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
When Jesus teaches us His prayer, the LORD's Prayer, He teaches us to live for today...He is teaching us to live in the present...He says give us "this day" our daily bread...Jesus does not say give us tomorrow's bread, or next week's meals, or next month's food...He specifically teaches us to be concerned about today...When He is teaching us about the worries and anxieties of life, He teaches us not to worry about tomorrow...Each day has enough trouble of its own...Jesus is specific on both these issues...Since each of our days, we may find some trouble, let us focus only on today...He does not want us (to spend our time today) worrying about yesterday and worrying about tomorrow and living in the future...
Jesus wants us to focus on this day...He is teaching us to spend the time on earth that God has given us, living in the moment...That means living for today...We should not spend today's time thinking and worrying about tomorrow and thinking about what might happen in the future...When you live in today's moment, you are not worried about the past, and you are not living in the future...What has happened, has happened and what will happen is up to His Father...
When Jesus teaches us about "today" in His prayer, we can only be closer to Him in this day...We cannot feel closer to Him yesterday, and we are not capable of being with Him in the future, because this is the time He has given us...As just stated, we cannot go back and relive the past and get closer to Him...We also cannot get ourselves in the future (of time) and be closer to Him... And when we think about this, we can only be happy in the present moment...We can be happy today...We cannot be happy in the future, because it is not here yet...We can relive the past (and smile about our good times), if we want to, and look at the positive things that have happened in our lives...But we should not focus on the negative thoughts and things that have happened in our lives...But I do not even think, we want to become so focused and relive our past over and over again...We need to live for today...We can only be happy in the moment of each day He gives us...So yesterday has passed...If we want to relive those past moments, we can rethink them, but Jesus seems to want us to focus on God, and focus on Him in this day...
God gives us one day at a time, and that is the way He wants us to live our lives...If we are so focused on the things we must get done in the future, or so focused on living in the past -we will miss this this day...When we understand this that we only live in each present moment of today, we can find some peace...God gives us each morning and a new day to live in...When we live one day at a time -enjoying our time today and living in the present, then we are not worrying about tomorrow or the future -we will have more peace of mind...No matter what day of the week it is, or what you are thinking and what is on our minds -it is always today that we live in...We cannot live in no other time...Life happens now (not tomorrow or yesterday)...God gives us each day to enjoy with Him...He give us each the present moment to live, enjoy, and be closer to Him...
