I really like Juying Secondary’s placement of its facilities. The classrooms are easy to find and all the Science Labs are fairly close to each other for ease of access. The Science Labs and Design and Technology labs are also well-equipped for any practical lessons.
Another interesting factor about Juying Secondary is the Secondary 3 Overseas Trip also known as the Trips for International Experience (TIE). Earlier in May, my classmates and I chose to go to Phnom Penh, Cambodia. As part of our overseas Values-In-Action project we had to observe certain situations faced by the population there. The problems we decided to observe and prevent was poverty and child-exploitation. To combat these problems, we chose to conduct activities such as teaching of English, toothbrushing, art and crafts and many more. It really was an eye-opening experience which you can only enjoy if you are a student of JYSS.
Most importantly, the teachers are also fairly approachable if the students have any questions for them after lessons.
My favourite teacher is Ms Lynette Wong. Ms Wong teaches me English Literature. Ms Wong is one of the teachers in JYSS who will go the extra mile for the students. Ms Wong would also mostly have spare time to see me after school as well to answer my problems related to Literature. Besides that, Ms Wong is also very witty thus making lessons highly entertaining. She will constantly give me encouragement and send me reminders to do my work. Coincidentally, Ms Wong is also the Overall teacher in charge of ELDDS which is my CCA.
ELDDS stands for English Language Drama & Debate Society. ELDDS is a fairly new CCA as it used to be a tourism club. But under the new CCA structure, it was changed to what it is now. I would say that the CCA has grown since then, not just in terms of members but the bond between them as well. Just this year, ELDDS was recognised for our Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) Performance and I am really proud to have been able to participate with my CCA.
Juying is indeed a good school that recognises students’ talents and interest. This year, as part of the Learning for Life Programme (LLP), my classmates and I were so lucky to be able to enjoy the musical Sisters’ Act at Marina Bay Sands Grand Theatre. Such performances are quite costly thus we were lucky to be able to enjoy it for free as part of the LLP Programme
Besides that, I am often talent picked to be the emcee for school events as I enjoy speaking in front of a large audience. This year, I was chosen to be the emcee for the Hari Raya Concert at my alma mater, Fuhua Primary School. A public speaking tip from me - Do not be afraid when speaking in front of a large audience if public speaking is not what you’re comfortable with.
I am confident Juying Secondary School will expose you to many activities that will maximise your potential based on your talents and interests. What are you waiting for? Choose Juying Secondary as your first choice!
