Turn Paper Vertical.
Remember, vertical is turning it tall instead of wide. This is the “portrait orientation” of your paper. *Check out the video lesson guidance starting now!* Mixed-media means combining more than one (mixed) drawing and painting tool (media) to make an image.
Draw Rough Head Shape and Face.
With any drawing tool, draw a big skull/head shape. You can add a neck and shoulders if you would like. Draw the face- Add eyes, nose, eyebrows, mouth. Make the face parts off center and not realistic.
Add Bold Color Marks.
Use your paint to add bold color marks throughout the skull. Don't be shy! Then let the paint dry.
Draw More Marks.
Once your first layer of paint is dried, add more drawn marks. Use crayons, markers, colored pencils, or oil pastels like Basquiat did. Get wild and bold with this next layer of marks.
Paint More Color.
Add more paint on top of and around what you have created already. Try to fill the rest of your project with big and bold marks and blocks of color.
