**Be sure to follow along with the step-by-step YouTube video inspiration and/or the written out lessons.

**And don’t forget to check out all of the Online Resources to help with inspiration!

  1. Turn Paper Horizontal.
Remember, horizontal is turning it wide instead of tall. This is the “orientation” of your paper. This is the orientation that Richter often works with for his abstract scraped paintings.

  2. Squeeze and Scrape First Color.
Squeeze lines of acrylic paint across project paper from the left side to the ride. Then, using a piece of cradboard, carefully and slowly scrape the color across your paper, from one side to the next. Be sure to watch videos to see how Richter does this!

  3. Squeeze and Scrape Second Color.
Repeat that step with a second color. Make sure you do this when the first paint color is still wet! You want these colors to show through each other. Be careful when squeezing out the second color to not “mix” or “muddy” them.

  4. Squeeze and Scrape Third Color.
Repeat squeeze and scrape with a third color. Make sure you do this when the paint is still wet! You want these colors to show through each other. Be careful when squeezing out the third color to not “mix” or “muddy” them.

  5. Scrape Marks.
Lastly, while the paint is still wet, use your finger, or cardboard corners to make marks in the wet paint! Get creative with these marks. This is pure abstraction, so it does not have to look like anything except the paint itself!
