-Henri Rousseau Cartoon-Fun Facts about the Artist-Israel Naive Art Museum: What is Naive Art?Have a blast with this!
Think of and write down a list of things that you might see in the jungle- tropical trees and plants and flowers, wild jungle animals like jaguars, hippos, snakes, monkeys, or waterfalls and rivers, etc. This can be purely from your imagination- What you would think a jungle might look like.
Sketch out your jungle scene. First, lightly with your pencil, draw everything out. Make this as detailed as possible. Add line details to each leaf, add pollen to flowers, show the bark on the trees, draw the fur or scales on your animals.
Add vibrant colors. Rousseau used bright greens and reds and rich blacks. I encourage you to use these colors too!
Color from the background forward. Color in what is furthest away first, which could be your sky. Then color in what is in the “midground”- what is closer to you than the sky, but not the closest. Lastly, add bright colors to the foreground- what is closest to you in the picture.
You have the option to add a black outline to all of your jungle parts. You don’t have to, but a lot of paintings in this style celebrate a black outline!
