Enjoy and Have fun!

  1. Go outside and collect your found objects! Have fun going outside for this project! Take your carrying helper (bag, bowl, or plate) with you to hold your “found objects” (the things that you are going to find in your front or backyard) as you collect them. You want to collect 5-10 things that strike your interest in some way- maybe you enjoy the color, the texture, the shape, maybe it’s really weird or really cool, maybe it is something you have always found to be beautiful- whatever it is, make sure it is something you will enjoy looking at and drawing!

  2. Set up your materials. You may of course do this drawing outside or inside. So, wherever you choose to do this drawing, set up your found objects *in front* of your drawing paper. You can set up one object at a time, or set up all of your objects together- That is up to you!

  3. Look and Draw! Drawing what you are looking at is called “Observational Drawing.” (Observe= To Look). Start with the outlines. With your pencil, LIGHTLY start drawing what you see. Start with the outline of one object, then move to the outline of another, and keep going until you draw the outline of every object. You can draw them in a straight line across your paper, in a circle, or all over the place- however you want.

  4. Next, add the details. Add as many details to each found object as you possibly can that you see. Rough texture, holes, lines, dirt, shapes, shadows, light, etc. Add it all! Take. Your. Time.

  5. Lastly, carefully trace over all of your pencil lines with a pen (black pen is fine). You have the choice to add color here. If you like it black and white, that works. If you want to add color, that works too!

**Be sure to nicely put your found objects back outside :)**
