1. Read and Research Artist.
   Look through all online source materials for project inspiration. You want to know who J.M.W. Turner was and how his landscapes and oceanscapes were genius in Impressionist painting.

2. Turn Paper Horizontal.
   Remember, horizontal is turning it wide instead of tall. This is the “orientation” of your paper.

3. Sketch Horizon Line.
   Image you are at the beach, looking out towards the ocean and sky- What do you see? With your pencil, lightly sketch your horizon line. The horizon line is where your sky meets your ocean. Make this line go the whole way across the center of your paper.

4. Sketch Details.
   Lightly, draw any details to this oceanscape. You can add boats, docks, birds, clouds, dolphins, etc.

5. Color the Sky.
   I encourage paint for this project, but you can use drawing materials if you do not have paint! Whatever you are using for color, add color to the sky first. Fill the sky with as many vibrant sky colors as you want. Turn this into a sunset or sunrise. Make it vibrant!

6. Color the Ocean.
   Whatever you are using for color, add color to the sky first. Fill the sky with as many vibrant sky colors as you want. Turn this into a sunset or sunrise. Make it vibrant!

7. Lights and Shadows!
   Don’t forget to add vibrant lights and shadows to your oceanscape throughout adding color.
