  1. Read and Research Artist.
Look through all online source materials for project inspiration. You want to know who the Orthodox Jewish artist, Marc Chagall was and how important he was in Surrealism in Modern Art.

  2. Turn Paper Vertical.
Remember, vertical is turning it tall instead of wide. This is the “portrait orientation” of your paper.

  3. Sketch “X”.
Lightly, in pencil, draw a line from corner to corner on your paper diagonally creating two triangles. Then repeat with the other two diagonal corners so that you end up with a large ‘X’ on your paper.

  4. Person and Animal Profiles.
In one of the triangles draw the profile of a person (a “profile” is a side-view of a person’s face). Try to use the whole triangle for this. In the opposite triangle draw the profile of any animal you want. Again, try to use as much of the triangle as possible.

  5. Person and Animal’s Dreamy Thoughts.
In the 3rd triangle (the one in the top center of your project) draw what the person is thinking or dreaming about. In the 4th triangle (the one in the bottom center of your project) draw what the animal is thinking or dreaming about.

  6. Black Outline.
Add a black outline over your pencil drawing throughout all 4 triangles.

  7. Color.
Lastly, add bright colors. Make the colors “dream-like.” You can repeat colors throughout the triangles.
