**And don’t forget to check out all of the Online Resources to help with inspiration!

  1. Read and Research Artist.
Look through all online source materials for project inspiration. You want to know who Rembrandt was and how his unique style of portraiture has been celebrated for centuries.

  1. Turn Paper Vertical.
Remember, vertical is turning it tall instead of wide. This is the “orientation” of your paper.

  2. Fold Your Paper.
Fold your paper in half vertically (“hotdog style”).. You want the folded crease of the paper to be in the center of your drawing, and you want your paper to remain vertical, tall.

  3. Half your Face!
If you have a printed photograph of yourself, place your project paper over the right side of your face (with the crease in the middle of your face in the photograph).. If you are using a mirror, place your project paper over the right side of the mirror so that you can still see the left half of your face when looking down at the mirror (with the crease in the middle of your face in the mirror). *Please refer to the video lesson guidance!*

  4. Lightly Sketch Face.
You want to draw the other half of your face here. You will be mirroring your face! With a pencil, very lightly sketch the other half of your face. This will take time! You want to start with the outside shape of your face, then your other half of your hair, other half of your nose, your other eye and eyebrow, other half of your mouth, and other half of your neck.

  5. Add Color and Details!
Add base colors to all parts of the half of your face that you drew. You want to replicate the colors that you see in real life as best as you can! Add lights and shadows, and details like eyelashes, freckles, glasses, etc. If it does not look exactly like you, it is okay! Just do the absolute best that you can. Be patient with yourself. Be proud of yourself for trying something new!
