Turn Paper Vertical.
Remember, vertical is turning it tall instead of wide. This is the “portrait orientation” of your paper. This might be different from your typical landscape’s “landscape orientation,” but that’s okay! It’s good to try new ways of making.
Sketch Landscape.
Lightly with your pencil, sketch out the landscape. Look at the artist reference! This includes the horizon line (top ⅓ of your paper), the long windy road flowing from the horizon line to the bottom of your paper, the different fields filling up the land, and the different kinds of trees throughout the fields and alongside the road.
Black Outline.
Carefully, trace over your light pencil lines with a dark sharpie or maker. This will separate the horizon line from the fields and the road and trees.
Add Patterns.
Add different patterns to each field- straight lines, zig zag lines, dots, wavy lines, etc. Make sure you watch the video lesson guidance for this!
Add Bold and Vibrant Color!
David Hockney is known for his bold and vibrant colorful landscapes. Make this the brightest most colorful landscape you have ever made!
