Caravaggio Still Life
Steps: Enjoy this! Explore Your Creativity! Relax! Have fun!
Read and Research Artist.
Look through all online source materials for project inspiration. You want to know who Caravaggio was and his significance in Art History.
Choose Objects.
Choose 7 objects, like fruit, vegetables, and a vase or cups and bowls. Set them on a flat surface in front of you, like a table or desk. This object set up is called a “still life.”
Light Your Objects.
Turn on a lamp next to your still life. You want there to be drastic lights and shadows!
Sketch Outlines.
Look at your objects and LIGHTLY draw the outlines of each object that you are looking at. Be patient and take your time. Always look at your objects as you are drawing.
Add Details.
Carefully add little details to each shape that you sketched. Curves, shapes, large shapes, small shapes. Don’t forget to keep looking up at your objects every few seconds that you are drawing.
Shade Your Lights.
Shade=Tone=Value
Be sure to watch the “How to Shade with Pencil” video. Do Your Very Best to add shading values to your still life. Add your lightest values first then your mid-tones (greys).
Shade Your Darks.
Lastly, add your darkest tones very last.
