Steps:
Have fun! Enjoy this! Explore Your Creativity! Relax! **Be sure to follow along with the step-by-step YouTube video inspiration and/or the written out lessons. **And don’t forget to check out all of the Online Resources to help with inspiration!

  1. Read and Research Artist.
Look through all online source materials for project inspiration. You want to know who Frida Kahlo was and her influence on Modern Art.

  2. Turn Paper Vertical.
Remember, vertical is turning it tall instead of wide. This is the “orientation” of your paper.

  3. Sketch Head Shape.
You are going to be drawing a portrait of the inspirational artist, Frida Kahlo! First, the head shape. Lightly, with a pencil, sketch out an oval head shape almost as big as your paper.

  4. Draw the Face.
Then, the rest of the face. Lightly, with a pencil, draw the eyes, nose, mouth, ears, hair, and eyebrows- Frida style! Be sure to check out the video lesson guidance to remind yourself about the “symmetry lines” in drawing a face. You want the one half of the face to look as close to the same as the other half- Do the best that you can.

  5. Add Details.
Add flowers to the hair, necklace to her neck, and even monkeys or cats on her shoulders! Make sure her eyebrows are thick and almost touching!

  6. Sharpie Outline.
With a black sharpie (or any dark colored marker), trace over all of the pencil lines of the portrait that you want to keep.

  7. Color!
Add bright, solid color to your Frida and the background! Check out her self-portraits for color inspiration.
