John 19:28-30 (KJV)
The Death of Jesus
28 Later, knowing that all was now completed, and so that the Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, “I am thirsty.” 29 A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus’ lips. 30 When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
Luke 23:44-49
Jesus Dies on the Cross
44 It was now about noon, and darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon, 45 for the sun stopped shining. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two. 46 Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.” When he had said this, he breathed his last.
47 The centurion, seeing what had happened, praised God and said, “Surely this was a righteous man.” 48 When all the people who had gathered to witness this sight saw what took place, they beat their breasts and went away. 49 But all those who knew him, including the women who had followed him from Galilee, stood at a distance, watching these things.
Acts 7:59-60
Dying Stephen Asks Jesus to Receive His Spirit
59 While they were stoning him, Stephen prayed, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit. 60 Then he fell on his knees and cried out, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.” When he had said this, he fell asleep.
God is Spirit...Giving up one's Spirit it seems means to die...Both Jesus and Stephen gave up their Spirits...
Stephen, a follower of Jesus gave up his spirit and ask Jesus to receive it, while being stoned to death...Then Stephen was near death he fell on his knees and cried out, “LORD, do not hold this sin against them.” ...When he had said this, and then he died...Stephen was asking Jesus to receive his soul and spirit, so that he could live with Him...
It is written that Jesus gave up His Spirit...And He called to His Father, “Father, into your hands I commit My Spirit.”...And when He had said this, He breathed His last breathe...There is mystery surrounding Jesus' death...He is Divine and He was also Human...And being Divine, means that He could have chosen life, but He died instead for our sins...He chose to lay down His life for mankind's sins, only to raise it back up again...So being Divine, He lives...He rose from His death...Jesus death was not like Stephen's...So Jesus' death was like not any other death that we know...
