Luke 24:36-49
Jesus Appears to the Disciples After His Death
36 While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, "Peace be with you."
37 They were startled and frightened, thinking they saw a ghost. 38 He said to them, "Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds? 39 Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have."
40 When he had said this, he showed them his hands and feet. 41 And while they still did not believe it because of joy and amazement, he asked them, "Do you have anything here to eat?" 42 They gave him a piece of broiled fish, 43 and he took it and ate it in their presence.
44 He said to them, "This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms."
45 Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. 46 He told them, "This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, 47 and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48 You are witnesses of these things. 49 I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high."
Acts 2:1-13
Jesus Sends His Disciples the Holy Spirit at the Day of Pentecost
1 When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.
5 Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. 6 When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard them speaking in his own language. 7 Utterly amazed, they asked: "Are not all these men who are speaking Galileans? 8 Then how is it that each of us hears them in his own native language? 9 Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome 11 (both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs-we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!" 12 Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another, "What does this mean?"
13 Some, however, made fun of them and said, "They have had too much wine.
I believe that Jesus' Disciples after His death were very grieved in their situation...They were suffering behind the closed and locked door...They understood the pain for three days in their hearts...They were His loving brothers and He had now died...When they saw Him after His death He came them Complete Hope, not only for themselves but for others...
And He says to them some very interesting things starting with "Peace be with you."...And they were startled that He was alive again...He had risen from His death...But maybe they saw a ghost...But He said to them, "Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds?...Look at My hands and My feet...It is I Myself! Touch Me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have."...When He had said these things, He showed them His hands and His feet...And while they still did not believe it because of joy and amazement, He asked them, "Do you have anything here to eat?"...They gave Him a piece of broiled fish, and He took it and He ate it in their presence...In their presence Jesus ate broiled fish...Jesus had died and had risen and now was eating broiled fish...Then He said to them, "This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms."...Then He opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures...He told them, "This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem...You are witnesses of these things...I AM going to send you what My Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high."...
They were not yet touched by the Holy Spirit...Jesus would clothe them with the Holy Spirit later...And so He clothed them with the power from the on high...They were clothed on the Day of Pentecost...Pentecost would begin the formal religion day of Christianity...
