Matthew 2:15-17
Jesus Tells Us He Came for Sinners
15 While Jesus was having dinner at Levi’s house, many tax collectors and sinners were eating with him and his disciples, for there were many who followed him. 16 When the teachers of the law who were Pharisees saw him eating with the sinners and tax collectors, they asked his disciples: “Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?”
17 On hearing this, Jesus said to them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
Matthew 26:36-46
Jesus Suffering in the Garden of Gethsemane
36 Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to them, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.” 37 He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee along with him, and he began to be sorrowful and troubled.38 Then he said to them, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.”
39 Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”
40 Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. “Couldn't you men keep watch with me for one hour?” he asked Peter. 41 “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
42 He went away a second time and prayed, “My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done.”
43 When he came back, he again found them sleeping, because their eyes were heavy. 44 So he left them and went away once more and prayed the third time, saying the same thing.
45 Then he returned to the disciples and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Look, the hour has come, and the Son of Man is delivered into the hands of sinners. 46 Rise! Let us go! Here comes my betrayer!”
Acts 13:38-41
We Are Justified by Our Faith in Jesus
38 “Therefore, my friends, I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you. 39 Through him everyone who believes is set free from every sin, a justification you were not able to obtain under the law of Moses. 40 Take care that what the prophets have said does not happen to you:
41 “‘Look, you scoffers,
wonder and perish,
for I am going to do something in your days
that you would never believe,
even if someone told you.’”
Ephesians 2:4-10
Saved by Grace through Faith
4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. 6 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, 7 in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. 8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
John 14:1-7
Jesus Comforts His Disciples
1 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. 2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. 4 You know the way to the place where I am going.” 5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”
6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”
Jesus tells us when He is recruiting Matthew to be a Disciple, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners."....By saying and actually doing this He set Himself up for great suffering, and His eventual death...Jesus did not sin...And sin causes death...And in His case our sins, caused His death on the cross...
Jesus told His Disciples before His arrest and eventual death, “My Soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death...Stay here and keep watch with Me.”...Jesus was so overwhelmed with sorrow and anxiety that He was at the point of death...He was suffering greatly...He even fell to the ground and prayed, and ask God to take this suffering from Him...Not as He might do, but as God would do, and through God's will...Later, He would be hung on the cross and be crucified to death...God for all the right reasons, came and lived on earth -and then He suffered and died on the cross...A God who suffers...What kind of God is One who would want to live and suffer, when He did not have to?...After all He is Divine...
God justified human life and suffering, by living life...He came to earth and lived...And by living life, and the way life is, He suffered...There is a time of suffering when we live...Jesus had to suffer, because life gives us and brings us times of suffering...The Law of Moses could not take away our sins...St. Paul said that he want us to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to us...Through Him everyone who believes is set free from every sin, a justification we were and not able to obtain under the Law of Moses....God justified life by living -and justification means doing right, doing the right things, or making and fixing a wrong into a right...And Jesus did all these things...He was always doing right...He took on our sins, and did something right for each of us...He fixed our sinful wrongs with His death, and He suffered greatly on the cross for our sins...His suffering gives us credit -it fixes our wrong our sins...He takes away our sins, because of His suffering and His death...And sin causes the death of the soul...God's Plan was to send His Son to us to live, to teach us, to forgive us (of our sins), to suffer, and to die and take away the believer's sins...We are justified by His LOVE, His Grace, and by our faith in His Son...A Loving Father who allowed His Child to suffer...The Father was with His Son when He suffered...Jesus is with us when we trust Him and believe in Him in our sufferings...He will comfort us in our time of need...We will never be alone in our suffering, if we ask Him or pray to Him to be with us...
