Ecclesiastes 1:1-18
Everything Is Meaningless
1 The words of the Teacher, son of David, king in Jerusalem:
2 “Meaningless! Meaningless!”
says the Teacher.
“Utterly meaningless!
Everything is meaningless.”
3 What do people gain from all their labors
at which they toil under the sun?
4 Generations come and generations go,
but the earth remains forever.
5 The sun rises and the sun sets,
and hurries back to where it rises.
6 The wind blows to the south
and turns to the north;
round and round it goes,
ever returning on its course.
7 All streams flow into the sea,
yet the sea is never full.
To the place the streams come from,
there they return again.
8 All things are wearisome,
more than one can say.
The eye never has enough of seeing,
nor the ear its fill of hearing.
9 What has been will be again,
what has been done will be done again;
there is nothing new under the sun.
10 Is there anything of which one can say,
“Look! This is something new”?
It was here already, long ago;
it was here before our time.
11 No one remembers the former generations,
and even those yet to come
will not be remembered
by those who follow them.
Wisdom Is Meaningless
12 I, the Teacher, was king over Israel in Jerusalem. 13 I applied my mind to study and to explore by wisdom all that is done under the heavens. What a heavy burden God has laid on mankind! 14 I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind.
15 What is crooked cannot be straightened;
what is lacking cannot be counted.
16 I said to myself, “Look, I have increased in wisdom more than anyone who has ruled over Jerusalem before me; I have experienced much of wisdom and knowledge.” 17 Then I applied myself to the understanding of wisdom, and also of madness and folly, but I learned that this, too, is a chasing after the wind.
18 For with much wisdom comes much sorrow;
the more knowledge, the more grief.
Acts 17:24-31
God Made the World and Everything in Heaven and Earth
24 “The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands. 25 And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything. Rather, he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else. 26 From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. 27 God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us. 28 ‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’
29 “Therefore since we are God’s offspring, we should not think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone—an image made by human design and skill. 30 In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent. 31 For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to everyone by raising him from the dead.”
What a heavy burden God has laid on mankind...Mankind needs the Resurrection of our LORD and Savior Jesus Christ...I need the Resurrection of Jesus...For me, it is the most important fact in the Bible and the entire universe...And I need the resurrection to give life meaning...
Jesus' birth, life, death, and resurrection is some of the Greatest Sacred and Holy Mysteries of the World...And if Jesus is Divine, I would expect there would be many mysteries surrounding Him...If we believe these mysteries then we have purpose of life and life has a meaning...If we deny these Great Mysteries then we are all on earth because of a chemical explosion that caused human carbon units to exist on the one sustaining planet in the universe with oxygen and food and the basic needs of our daily life and our Daily Bread...
And of all these Great Mysteries and Truths, the Great Mystery of the Resurrection stands out, because He holds the key to eternal life...He now gives life meaning by overcoming death...He has proved by His Resurrection that He is the One appointed by God and gives life meaning...God has given us proof that Jesus is the Messiah and appointed Him our Judge...And God has set a day when Jesus will judge the world with justice by the Man...And God has given proof of this to everyone by raising Him from the dead...
