Acts 19:1-7
John the Baptist Disciples
1 While Apollos was at Corinth, Paul took the road through the interior and arrived at Ephesus. There he found some disciples 2 and asked them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?"
They answered, "No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit."
3 So Paul asked, "Then what baptism did you receive?"
"John's baptism," they replied.
4 Paul said, "John's baptism was a baptism of repentance. He told the people to believe in the one coming after him, that is, in Jesus." 5 On hearing this, they were baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus. 6 When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied. 7 There were about twelve men in all.
Apollos said he never heard of the Holy Spirit...So, we might assume, there are many who have not heard about the Holy Spirit, that Jesus sent...
And John the Baptist was very popular and had many followers...In the Acts, when St. Paul meets with followers of John the Baptist...John the Baptist and Jesus were now both in heaven...But John continued to have followers and disciples...St. Paul tells John's followers that John's baptism was a baptism of repentance and Jesus baptism was one of the Holy Spirit... John's disciples received the Holy Spirit after St. Paul puts his hands on them...
John the Baptist, questioned Jesus and had his followers go ask Jesus, if He in fact was the Messiah...Jesus, on the other hand had no doubt who John the Baptist was and the importance of John's ministry...Jesus said John the Baptist was like Elijah and the prophet who would proclaim the LORD's coming...John the Baptist pays the ultimate price and dies as a great witness for Jesus...
