John 17:1-5
Jesus Prays for Himself
1 After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed: "Father, the time has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. 2 For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him. 3 Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. 4 I have brought you glory on earth by completing the work you gave me to do. 5 And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.
Acts 4:12
Jesus is Our Only Way to Salvation
12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.
If we read these verses and think that Jesus is only a prophet, the verses are difficult to understand...If we read them from the perspective that He is the Son of God, and is Divine, and has been with God since the world began, we get another perspective and a different thinking...Believing that Jesus is our Savior and our Salvation helps these verses make sense...Peter tells us that salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name other than Jesus Christ under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved...
In verse three He tells us that He is Jesus Christ, the Messiah whom the Only true God has sent...Jesus saying this is unique...God has given His Son all power and all authority over all people that He might give us eternal life...Jesus says now this is eternal life, that we may know God, who is the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom God has sent to dwell among us...That is eternal life, that we believe and know that God is God and is the One True God, and that He sent Jesus to save us...
Another way of saying this is that we must know and seek and get to know God and Jesus...Jesus tells us -that we may know our LORD God and that He sent Jesus as our Messiah...And by knowing (we need and must get to know both God and Jesus) God and Jesus, then this is eternal life, and this knowing (who God and Jesus are) gives us eternal life...This knowing God and Jesus provides us our salvation...It makes sense, if God is God that the Son of God, is the One God was and is sent to save us from our sins...
