As you may know, Opticare has gone out of business. To minimize disruption and ensure continued vision coverage for employees, PEHP is transitioning all employees enrolled in Opticare to EyeMed. This transition is effective as of December 1, and employees will be enrolled in the same plan type they previously had with Opticare (e.g., Full Coverage/Single or Frames and Lenses Only/Single).
Impacted employees will receive more detailed information from PEHP to help them navigate this change. Since they are currently enrolled in vision coverage, PEHP initially assumes they want to continue coverage with EyeMed. However, employees who prefer not to transition to EyeMed will have a 60-day window to opt-out.
Impacted employees will also be directed to the “Insight Network” under EyeMed to maximize their benefits. They will also receive a welcome packet and ID card from EyeMed within a month.
Affected employees should receive communication from the Utah Department of Insurance (UDI), such as this notice. Claims for services before December 1 will be processed under Opticare, and the state’s guarantee funds will cover these claims and pay providers.
