Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA)

Reasonable Accommodations for Pregnancy & Related Conditions

Consistent with the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA), the Judiciary provides reasonable accommodations to workers' limitations related to pregnancy, childbirth, or other related medical conditions and may request reasonable accommodations to perform the essential functions of their job (HR Policy HR08-15). Breastfeeding, pumping, and medical conditions related to lactation are among the conditions covered under the PWFA.

The Judiciary's Human Resources Department assists with determining reasonable accommodations under the PWFA. Accommodation requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis with the help of the individual's home department/district management with a need to know and as needed to process the request.

Under the PWFA, if an employee is experiencing barriers at work due to pregnancy or related conditions that impact their ability to perform job functions or meet job expectations, they can request an accommodation to help remove such barrier(s).
