Mental Wellness

Pathways to Mental Wellness

When we are mentally healthy, we enjoy our life, environment, and the people in it. We can be creative, learn, try new things, and take risks. We can better cope with difficult times in our personal and professional lives. Preauthorization is required for some mental health services, including all inpatient mental health services, day treatment facilities, and intensive outpatient programs. We emphasize physical and mental well-being as key traits of effective and balanced employees.

In addition to the benefits, tools, and resources listed below, your sick and annual leave balances are additional tools that can be used to improve your mental well-being!

What is mental wellness?

"Mental wellness is an internal resource that helps us think, feel, connect, and function; it is an active process that helps us to build resilience, grow, and flourish."

Blomquist Hale Employee Assistance Program

The Blomquist Hale Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provides specialized assistance to address virtually any stressful life situation. This solution-focused assistance is offered free of charge to all state employees (even non-benefited) and their dependents.

Services are offered virtually, face-to-face, or via the phone.  Contact Blomquist Hale at (800) 926-9619 to speak to a mental health professional anytime from anywhere.

Brightside Health

*benefit eligible employees

Brightside Health is the latest addition to PEHP’s mental health menu for employees. Brightside Health is available to all employees and their dependents who are currently enrolled on a PEHP medical plan. It’s extra convenient since it is offered virtually. Once your online assessment form is submitted, a professional will contact you within 48 hrs (or sooner if it is urgent).

Brightside Health does not replace Blomquist Hale, which is available to all employees, nor does it replace the current flexibility employees have to choose a provider within the network. This new benefit is available to any employee enrolled in a PEHP medical plan, including ACA medical-only plans. For more information, please take a look at this brochure.

Online assessment and additional information to get started can be found on their website.

Tava & Unmind

On October 24, 2023, the Judiciary launched two powerful mental health tools for non-judicial officer employees (judges and commissioners have access through the Utah State Bar). These employee benefits are provided in addition to the enhanced mental health & wellness benefits launched through PEHP for all state employees in July 2023.

Tava

Tava Health facilitates access to top-notch mental healthcare providers. Judiciary employees are eligible to receive six professional counseling sessions free of charge. Use of this benefit is completely confidential and voluntary. Employees should verify with PEHP whether a specific therapist accepts PEHP insurance if they wish to continue beyond the six free sessions within the same year. Tava benefits for Judicial Officers are offered through the Utah State Bar.

Unmind

Unmind is an app designed by psychologists to help individuals understand and improve their mental health. It's free and completely confidential, and all judiciary employees have access through their utcourts.gov Google account. Judiciary employees may also give complimentary access to one family member or friend of their choice. Unmind benefits for Judicial Officers are offered through the Utah State Bar.
