401(k)

An Investment in Your Future

Planning and saving for retirement isn’t always easy, but it is important to achieve your financial goals. URS Savings Plans, such as a 401(k), 457(b), traditional IRA, and Roth IRA, are a simple way to get started.

Who's Eligible?

An employee is eligible to participate in the 401(k) match program when:

Justices, judges, and court commissioners are not eligible as they do not accrue leave.

401(k) Automatic Enrollment
As a newly hired or rehired benefit eligible State of Utah Employee, beginning with your first paycheck, you will automatically be enrolled in the URS 401(k) plan, have $26.00 of each paycheck deferred to your URS account, and receive the 401(k) match. *You may reduce or stop contributions at any time.

401(k) Match Program
All eligible employees will receive an employer contribution (no employee contribution required) into their retirement plan (Tier I or Tier II based on your hire date). Detailed information may be found on URS.org. Additionally, the State will match an employee’s own 401(k) contribution up to $26 bi-weekly, or $676 for the year. Employees must put in at least $26 bi-weekly to receive the full match. An employee who contributes $676 or more during that year will receive the full match, while an employee who chooses to contribute only $300 for the year will receive a $300 match. An eligible employee contributing up to $26 bi-weekly to any URS savings plan 401(k), 457, Traditional IRA, or Roth IRA will receive the State's match up to $26. Still, the State's match will only be placed into the employee's 401k

Vesting

Tier II employer contributions and the related earnings are fully vested after four years of accrued service credit. If you separate from service before completing the four-year vesting period and subsequently enter employment with a URS participating employer within 10 years of your previous termination date, your Tier II employer contributions and related earnings or losses will be reinstated upon completion of the vesting period.
